Richard Stockton College turned to us mid-construction, looking for major adjustments to their original design plan for their servery. Working on an expedited schedule, we performed a design and documentation process in less than half the normal time. Each branded concept in the food court had its own strong individual identity, along with its own set of proprietary equipment and production procedures.
Since the building structure and utilities were already installed, we worked hard to gracefully retrofit the servery to accommodate the brands. We drew design inspiration from the iconic PH Artichoke Lamp by Louis Poulsen and developed a language of layering that appeared in the ceiling, wall and floor elements. With the central column in the servery acting as the core, the various brands appear on different layers of the wall, creating a platform for each to have their own identity.
