Two historic buildings located on adjacent blocks of Gastonia’s West Main Street were in need of attention. We created multiple sustainable reuse options that were driven by respect for the structures’ history and fiscal responsibility to the developers. With the surrounding area working to recover, we focused on simple yet flexible improvements to the existing buildings systems – all of which needed to be replaced.
Efficient core designs and the use of existing materials helped meet historic requirements and budget constraints. The different design options offered mixed-use flexibility for these turn-of-the-century buildings.
